Muscle Spasms

Stretch, and gently massage the area. Icing the area may stop a spasm, as can applying heat with a warm towel or heating pad or running hot water on the muscle in the shower.
See a doctor immediately if:
- Severe and persistent pain
- Leg swelling, redness, or other skin changes
- Muscle weakness
Make an appointment to see a doctor if:
- Frequent
- Cause isn't clear
- Self-care doesn't help
