Spondylitis is a condition that involves inflammation of the spine. Causes include infection, injury, or age-related wear and tear. A common form is ankylosing spondylitis, a type of arthritis.

Symptoms include pain, stiffness or tenderness in the back, hip pain and limited mobility.

Treatment may include medicines, such as antibiotics or anti-inflammatories, physical therapy and surgery, if needed.
