October 7, 2025
Pancreatitis is inflammation of the organ lying behind the lower part of the stomach, called the pancreas. It may start suddenly and last for days or occur over many years. It has many causes, such as gallstones, alcoholism and certain medicines.
Symptoms include upper abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting.
Treatment usually requires hospitalization. Once stabilized, your healthcare team will treat the underlying cause.
