Damage to the skin or deeper tissues caused by sun, fire, electricity, or chemicals.
Burns are damage to the skin or deeper tissues caused by sun, fire, electricity, or chemicals. Burns range from minor problems to life-threatening emergencies.
Symptoms of minor burns are inflamed, painful skin. More serious burns might swell, blister and leave scars.
Sunburn and small scalds can often be treated at home. Deep or widespread burns and chemical or electrical burns need immediate medical care, often at specialized burn units.
