Self-care options include regular exercise and adequate sleep. Avoiding or limiting alcohol consumption also may help.
Seek emergency help if:
- Suicidal thoughts
- Chance of harming oneself or others
Make an appointment to see a doctor if:
- Depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day, such as feeling sad, empty, hopeless, or tearful
- Affecting work, school, and relationships
- Persistent, elevated mood lasting longer than a few days
- Excessive risk-taking
