Foot drop
January 15, 2025
A general term for difficulty lifting the front part of the foot, sometimes called drop foot.
Self-care options include clearing floors of clutter, rugs and cords to reduce risk of tripping. Using fluorescent tape on steps and keeping spaces well lit also may help.
See a healthcare professional immediately for:
- New weakness.
- Sensory loss.
Make an appointment to see a healthcare professional if:
- Toes suddenly drag on the floor when walking.
- There is leg pain.
- Weakness happens in the other leg.
- Falls occur.
