Vomiting
March 9, 2024
Forcefully expelling the stomach's contents out of the mouth.
Self-care includes taking small sips of liquid to help prevent dehydration. Once fluids stay down, try easy-to-digest solid foods, such as toast, crackers or gelatin.
See a healthcare professional right away if:
- Chest pain, blurry vision, confusion, high fever, a stiff neck or other serious symptoms are present.
- Blood, stool, or a green color is present in vomit.
Make an appointment to see a healthcare professional if:
- An adult can't keep fluid down for 12 hours or more.
- A child can't keep fluid down for 8 hours or more.
- There is excessive thirst, less frequent urination, lightheadedness or other symptoms of dehydration.
