Pneumonitis is a general term for inflamed lung tissue. Although pneumonia is a type of pneumonitis, most doctors use the term to refer to other causes of lung inflammation. These may include airborne irritants, such as mold, certain drugs, and radiation treatment to the chest.

Treatment usually starts with irritant avoidance.
