Malabsorption

A condition that prevents absorption of nutrients mostly through the small intestine.
Malabsorption may be caused by infection, medicines, small intestine surgery and certain conditions, such as celiac disease.
Symptoms include weight loss, bloating and sometimes diarrhea. Over time, the brain, nervous system, bones, liver and other organs can be affected.
Treatment depends on the condition causing malabsorption and may include nutritional supplements.
